BEHIND THE CURTAIN
Topic: Shakespeare and Jealousy
Saturday, March 18 | 10:30am
Jane Iredale Lobby located at the Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre
Shakespeare spent quite a bit of time writing about jealousy. This installment of Behind the Curtain will look at how he uses this emotion in several different plays, including Othello, Much Ado About Nothing, and The Winter’s Tale. The session will aim to answer questions including: How did Shakespeare manage to make jealousy central to each of these plays, while creating works that are strikingly different in tone and outcome? How does the presence, or lack, of a female advocate contribute to the outcome? And, how does the setting influence the action of each play? Shakespeare & Company Scenic Designer Patrick Brennan will be this session’s guest, offering insights into how space, and the use of space, can influence a production, including through display of hand-crafted models.
