"The actors pulled off the doubling and the technical material and everything else beautifully. The kids laughed and laughed. Teachers said it was 'wonderful' and meant it. They were sky high.”

Joseph Earls, teacher

Overview of the Spring Tour

Every year, from late January through the middle of May, a courageous group of Shakespeare & Company actor/teachers travel to schools and theaters throughout New England, New York and New Jersey, performing a 90-minute production of a Shakespeare play. The emphasis is on language, pleasure in playing, and the relationship that exists between the actors and the audience. Our actors create wonderful rapport with students, and while they make Shakespeare immediate and accessible, they never dumb it down.

Besides the schools we visit, nearly 100 additional schools come to see the production in one of our centrally located performance venues. This program has operated annually since 1982, and reaches nearly 25,000 students every year.

In addition to the performances, we offer two different 45-minute workshops for students: Workshops in Performance and Actor Audience Workshops.

The performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream was FABULOUS! One kid turned to me after the production and said, 'I thought this was going to be real heavy duty boring Shakespeare, but its really different than I thought.' Thank you, thank you.Pam Ward, teacher
Sharon Academy, Vermont
