A team of seven Shakespeare & Company actor/teachers travels to
approximately 60 schools throughout the northeast, performing a 90-minute
production of one of Shakespeare’s plays with emphasis on the
language, pleasure in playing, and the relationship that exists between
the actors and the audience. Besides the schools we visit, nearly
100 additional schools come to visit us in one of our centrally located
performance venues to see the production. The actors create wonderful
rapport with students, and while they make Shakespeare immediate
and accessible, they never dumb it down. In addition to the performances,
two other programs are available: Workshops in Performance and Actor
Audience Workshops. All three pieces work well together. This program
has operated annually since 1982, and is slated to expand into the
Fall as well.
The performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream was FABULOUS! One kid turned to me after the production and said, 'I thought this was going to be real heavy duty boring Shakespeare, but its really different than I thought.' Thank you, thank you.Pam Ward, teacher
