Tina Packer Playhouse (Founders’ Theatre)

Our air-conditioned, scaffold-and-canvas theatre retains last year’s popular arena seating configuration, placing audiences on three sides and two levels of the action. This configuration will seat up to 406 in box seats and in comfortable armless, cushion-backed benches. Please join us in the lobby bar (Josie’s Place) overlooking Bankside for pre- and post-show light meals and drinks.

If you have any questions, or would like help in choosing your seats, please feel free to call our box office.

Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre

The largest building on our property has been transformed into one of the most innovative production arts and performance spaces in the Northeast. The re-configurable Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre is currently in its “thrust” arrangement, seating an intimate audience of 196 on three sides of the action.

If you have any questions, or would like help in choosing your seats, please feel free to call our box office.

Special Events

Special events, lectures, discussions and presentations will occur throughout the season at various locations around Shakespeare & Company’s property.

Rose Footprint Theatre/Bankside

In Elizabethan London, the southern shore of the Thames River—called The Banksyde—was home to brigands, brothels, rogue businesses, and an explosion of theatrical creativity not seen before or since. Londoners would cross the river to experience plays, contests, shows, bear-baitings, and to participate in the creation of a new language and a new way of looking at the world.

Shakespeare & Company’s Bankside program graces the banks and terraces surrounding Founders’ Theatre and the magical Rose Footprint theatre.

The Rose Footprint Theatre closely resembles the actual dimensions of Shakespeare’s first London theatre, the Rose Playhouse, with a simple stage with bleacher seating and a large tent. Lawn chairs are provided and there is open ground for picnicking—or join us up the hill at Josie’s Place for light fare and drinks! Seating is general admission.

Josie’s Place (our lobby dining area and bar) will be open before and after all performances, offering light fare and a variety of drinks. And you are always welcome to picnic on the grounds.

Our gardens and walking trails are open, so park your car next to Founders’, stroll the woods and enjoy any number of fun, free performances and intriguing lectures before making your evening curtain time.

The spirit of Shakespeare’s Banksyde lives on with revelry, creativity, free plays, concerts, and impromptus.
