(Lenox, MA) – Shakespeare & Company seeks energetic and passionate volunteers for their 2018 Summer Season. The Company is soliciting Berkshire Community members who enjoy theatre, have an interest in arts education programs, and share a love of Lenox. Volunteers are vital to all thriving nonprofit and cultural institutions. Shakespeare & Company volunteers touch the lives of thousands, from audiences to youth groups and actors in training, in the Berkshire community and around the country. This season, the Company is especially in search of enthusiastic ushers for their Shakespeare productions– individuals, couples and families are encouraged to join in and see the shows for free!

“Shakespeare & Company will put your skills, knowledge, and life experiences to good use, and you’ll play an active role in the Company’s mission,” said Artistic Director Allyn Burrows. “We currently have over 160 volunteers, coming from diverse locations, backgrounds, and lifestyles, all supporting the year-round work of Shakespeare & Company. Our volunteers save the Company thousands of hours, and have a lot of fun in the process!”

Volunteer activities and projects include: Administrative Assistance, Book Selection, Company Event Assistance, Company Hospitality, Flower Arrangement, Gardening, Gift Shop Sales, Membership Outreach, Oral History and Archive Support, Tour Guiding, and Ushering. Training is provided, and mentorship is available.

“I have been attending Shakespeare & Company performances for years, so when I heard they were looking for volunteers, I jumped at the chance,” said Volunteer Company Co-Chair Maureen O’Hanlon. “It’s a great way to support this outstanding organization. It’s a lot of fun, and my fellow volunteers have become good friends!”

Volunteer benefits include: tickets to plays and special programs at Shakespeare & Company, earning community service hours, making new friends and having fun, learning the workings of one of the largest Shakespeare festivals in the country, and meeting a dynamic and diverse group of volunteers and arts professionals who truly appreciate the effort extended in support of Shakespeare & Company.

Interested Community Members can call the Shakespeare & Company Volunteer Office at 413-637-1199, ext 177, or send an email to VolunteersEmail@shakespeare.org. Leave your name and phone number, and a Membership Committee member will contact you.
