The 2009-10 season will be “young, passionate, daring and joyful. This is life laid bare,” says Artistic Director Tina Packer. With a re-dedication to the powerful truths at the heart of Shakespeare’s work and the excitement sparked by a new theatre and production center, our 2009-10 Play On! Season reinforces our commitment to the core themes that have made it an invaluable part of the Berkshires community for 32 years. Here’s a glimpse of what we have in store.
Founding Artistic Director Tina Packer’s goal for The Diva Series is to “celebrate one beautifully committed woman, Elayne P. Bernstein,” the namesake for our new theatre in which these shows will be performed.
The Series—very limited runs of three inspirational solo performances—begins on May 27th with four performances of Willy Russell’s Shirley Valentine, featuring Tina Packer as the irrepressible woman-next-door who uncovers her independence.
Up next is Penny Kreitzer playing multiple characters in The Actors Rehearse the Story of Charlotte Salomon, the story of a vibrant young artist who perished in the Holocaust and the ways her family—and a troupe of actors—remember her years later.
The Diva Series concludes with Golda’s Balcony, which premiered at Shakespeare & Company in 2002 and features Elliot Norton Award-winner Annette Miller as Gold Meir.
Audiences can save 20% off their tickets by seeing all three shows: Shirley Valentine, Golda’s Balcony and The Actors Rehearse the Story of Charlotte Salomon. A- or B-section seats only. Not available online.
