Arden Institute

EXAMINE. REFLECT. ANALYZE. Lead.

Participating in The Arden Seminars

Some 20 participants per seminar are drawn from the leadership of all professions along with independent artists, writers and scholars. The ideal profile of each seminar is a group of mostly women, intergenerational, ethnically and geographically diverse and professionally interdisciplinary. The Arden Institute community includes lawyers, physicians, judges, independent scholars, artists, writers, actors, college presidents and deans, high level government officials, human rights activists and leaders from the media. Seminar participants are generally professionals who feel overworked and rarely find time for themselves. The three or four days of reflection become a respite from the frenzied pace of contemporary life, a rare opportunity to re-examine the intellectual frameworks of their thoughts and actions.

By dint of revealing oneself in terms of one's values, past work, future aspirations and current status, participants learn about each others' lives and decision-making deliberations. Those who get the most out of the seminars are willing to be open, learning from similar stories of other people's lives. There are no formal presentations; two moderators guide the discussions. Each seminar is unique, ending in a tapestry of thoughts, ideas, values, impressions, experiences, and actions - each one a masterpiece.
